6th September 2026 Windsurfing: The Dip at Felixstowe Wind Direction: S Wind Stength: 8/14 Surf / Sea State: lumpy and smooth Air Temperature: 20 Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 16.23 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 21.50 mile (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Sunday 6th September – Windsurf *** The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny periods. Foil – 16.23 knot max, 15.29 knot ave., 9.69 knot hour, 14.16 knot mile, 49.50 km.,10.00 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Tushingham Bolt 6.5m. After a wonderful week when our Grandson visited for a week with his dad before going back to school, it was lovely to see both our Grandchildren have such fun together but I did miss a couple of windy days so I was keen to get out on the water today and hoping the forecast lived up to expectations! Mag went on her sunrise walk along Felixstowe prom which I gave a miss, a lazy start by me while checking the wind which was building slowly from the south so after a quick breakfast I loaded the van and headed down to The Dip hoping to make the most of the 1 o clock low water arriving first about 11.30 with 4 wingers out in very marginal conditions but I set up anyway going for my 6.5 hoping things would build as there looked enough wind on the water and the sun was out which is always a plus! Paul and Ian both wingers arrived and headed out with 6 and 5.5 respectively but it looked too light for me so I had a chat with Swainy before being tempted out on the water with the south breeze pretty onshore as I slowly made my way towards the red and white bouy which marks the entrance to the River Deben where the outgoing tide made some interesting waves but the sea really smoothed out past this but I did not come close to flying for a few runs as the wingers headed in. The wind did pick up a fraction and I was able to pump up onto the foil and was having some good long runs up the coast slowly beating offshore before I was far enough out to go for a run done the coast and had a top 4 mile run past The Fludyers, the pier before turning just short of the Manor Martello, sadly I could not get flying again until I was nearly back to The Dip which played havoc with my poor old fingers and I was pleased to make it back to the beach! So it turned out OK in the end making the most of the marginal breeze and sunshine! It was great to see so many people out enjoying the warm Autumn sunshine form families on the beach having fun in the sea, paddle boarders and canoers, kite surfers including a couple of kite foilers going well, the usual wingers, a couple of windsurf foilers and three paraglilders flying Bawdsey Cliff:) Photo Album here |
